Southern Oregon Sound had a great time at our holiday performances with Rogue Voices in December. We sang on December 3rd and 4th at seven local retirement communities and were really well received. Passin’ Notes Quartet also sang at each performance. We also performed on December 9th at the Rogue Valley Manor and sang at the Holly Theater Marquee in downtown Medford on December 16th. Many thanks to Bill Borah, Director of Rogue Voices for inviting us to join forces with them to bring smiles and holiday cheer to the retirees! |
April brought us our final two coaching sessions with Kathy Scheel on April 2nd and 23rd in Medford in preparation for Eugene. Her help has been greatly appreciated and we’re excited to show off what our core group of singers can do. Dinner afterwards with some of the chorus was another good time to share with Kathy. Passin’ Notes Quartet enjoyed our coaching sessions with Kathy at Barb’s house in Grants Pass on those Friday nights followed by wine and snacks and fun conversation. We're getting excited for our video session in Eugene on May 7th! Can't wait to see at least a portion of the Region 12 choruses again. |
Our booth at the Pear Blossom Festival in Medford on April 8th & 9th was a great success! We braved cold winds from time to time but still had lots of folks come by to chat and many left contact information for follow-up. We hope that many of them will decide to visit a Tuesday rehearsal and join us for singing and friendship! We shared the booth with the men's chorus, Rogue Voices, and they got some prospects too, even teaching tags to a few of them. We sang some of our mixed voice songs together which drew appreciative crowds. We can't wait to start rehearsing with them again after our contest in May to prepare for the joint show on September 17th. All in all the 2-day event was tiring but well worth it for both choruses. |
We had our second coaching session with Kathy Scheel on February 26th. We met in the community center in Sutherlin, Oregon to meet Kathy half-way between Medford and Salem this time. Gail Hillyer from Northwest Harmony Chorus, who’s a good friend of Southern Oregon Sound, came along to sit in and take notes and photos. Our chorus has been working hard on our music and this time we were able to finalize our interp for contest in Eugene. We may be small since the pandemic but “we are mighty!” We're looking forward to our membership growing again and welcoming new friends into our singing family. |
Southern Oregon Sound was delighted to welcome two new members to our chorus in January. Peg Mathews recently moved to Southern Oregon from Montana where she was a member of Helena Xpress Singers Chorus. Peg brings her lovely lead voice to the chorus and we are so happy to have her. Summer Couch is a tenor who re-joined the chorus after a time as Chapter-at-Large. Summer is also the tenor of Passin' Notes Quartet and we're so happy to have her on the risers with us once more. The chorus is always looking for new talented friends to join us! |
Southern Oregon Sound's final holiday performance was at the Holly Theater in downtown Medford on a very chilly December 17th evening. The Holly is a 1930’s movie house that is being lovingly restored by the JPR foundation (https://www.hollytheatre.org). Although the interior of theater itself is still undergoing renovations, we and Rogue Voices entertained under the fabulous marquee to passersby. |

Southern Oregon Sound and Rogue Voices joined together to provide some holiday cheer at three Medford retirement communities on December 4, 2021. Each chorus sang carols and together we sang two mixed voice holiday songs. We had a lot of fun and brought smiles to the residents and staff. Even though we had to sing with masks on, it felt great to entertain once more. We're looking forward to more events with the men of Rogue Voices in 2022! |
In-person rehearsals at Eastwood Baptist Church are held every Tuesday from 6-8 pm. Vaccination is required for participants and guests. Oregon health guidelines are observed with masks, social distancing, etc. Our Regional contest for the Oregon choruses and quartets will be on May 7, 2022 in Eugene. We're learning new music for that as well as choosing music for an upcoming show with Rogue Voices on May 21, 2022. So now is the time to come visit and hopefully join us as we begin preparations for contest and performances! We welcome former, current and new members to be a part of singing in 2022. So if you're eager to find some new friends in song, we just might be the right group for you! You don't even have to read music as we have audio learning tracks as well. Come join us! |
